Biotechnology Education

2112/105: Biotechnology in Society (nonmajors: Sophomore-Senior)

I really like how even though it is a lecture setting she does activities with us to allow the class to better understand the concepts. I have really learned a lot.

I really love how activities are done in class to help understand the concepts better. It really helps.

I really enjoy the in class projects, they are a lot of fun and make different principles easy to understand and remember.

The info and topics covered were extremely relevant to current events issues. I learned a lot.

I feel the teacher gave good explanations and hands on activities that helped emphasize the topics we were discussing.

Genomics Education

1090: Introduction to Biochemistry (majors: Freshman)

This course focused on thinking outside the box and applying fundamental ideas and concepts to real world observations. It made me take a second look at things that used to seem simple and actually are very essential and complex.

All the labs we did were actually useful in the sense we weren’t just doing them to learn something we did them to figure things out that weren’t known before.

I liked the fact that we used more advanced techniques and equipment because it showed what biochemists actually work with on a regular basis.

The lab section of this course was extremely helpful, it provided hands on experiential learning which tends to be helpful in the learning process. Many in this class will go on to become biochemists which tend to work in lab environments and this course allowed me to visualize and think of the activities occurring in a laboratory.

4374/374: Molecular Biology Laboratory (majors: Senior)

I felt the lab techniques varied enough to give us the necessary background to proceed into further research.

I really liked the genomics portion of the class. It was completely new info and techniques for me and I feel like it will be very helpful in future career situations. I liked using the sequence data program. I also liked that we covered so much in the course—I got to practice some molecular bio lab techniques.

I enjoyed the fact that I got to do experiments that I always read about.

I also like that we are learning to use databases—though I don’t really like it, I appreciate knowing how to use it.
